Dear Members of St. Peter’s Family,

This is the first of what I hope to be a new level of communication about our reconstruction efforts. The Wardens, Vestry and I have been hard at work now we are ready to involve you in a new way. We had a wonderful vestry retreat this past Saturday where we focused on project management, fundraising and communication.

First some background. Having partnered with Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center’s Housing Affiliate, we obtained diocesan approval to begin moving forward once again. The first major result of this was the submission of an Application to HUD for funds to build the housing and for the land lease payment which will give us a major portion of the funding we need to build our church. As part of this process we have developed design concepts and drawings for the church. We plan to have an informational event that will include project drawings and plans status within the next 45-60 days.  We have also begun the various studies required by the city, such as the focused Environmental Impact Report, and Conditional Use permits.

We should hear about the HUD application by the end of October, but in the meantime we are working hard to prepare for the steps that will happen after that. We are researching the hiring of a Project Manager to help oversee the many aspects of the project. We are beginning to form a committee to develop a Fund-raising Strategy to obtain the additional funds needed for our Church, and we are working on new and better ways of communicating about all of this, both to you and to the outside world.

All this takes dedicated commitment, and your Vestry has demonstrated just that as they each have headed sub-committees to consider various aspects of our preparation for reconstruction. Searching for storage places, archiving our documents, finding

temporary worship space and trying to stay on top of the many demands of the city departments are just some of what this amazing Vestry is doing. I am proud of their work and grateful to them all.

As things now are moving forward again, it is time to ask for your rededication to the project and to the work that lies ahead for us all. We want to talk more directly with you about what skills and interests you might be able to bring to the table.  Therefore, if you have any recommendations, questions, referrals with regards to: 1) Project Management; 2) Fundraising, and/or 3) Communications; please contact:

          Marketing/Communications   Robin Wirthlin     415-668-9428

          Fundraising                            Linda Griffith       415-82417978

St. Peter’s is an amazing church family, and as a family we need to work together to accomplish what we hope for and maintain what we have. I encourage your participation in what ever area you have ability and interest. I also encourage you to communicate directly to me any concerns or suggestions, or you can talk with the Senior and Junior Warden (Linda Griffith and Betty Carlson).

Thank you all, and may God empower each of us on this ongoing journey.

Sincerely,
